[added Friday: Sweet little daisy bag up at etsy now, and another coming during afternoon nap time.]
What I did on my summer vacation:
3. I did not see any bears, but I did see lots of other wildlife.I saw an osprey, a bald eagle, 2 wolves, multiple ground squirrels (one who drew blood on my toe hoping for my turkey sandwich), marmots, mountain goats, big horn sheep, buffalo, elk, and and a camel. Seriously. I saw a camel. In South Dakota. Yay, God, for making so many amazing animals and for not letting any of them kill us on this trip. We came close, particularly with the buffalo, but we were gracefully spared. Thank you.
Whilst unpacking (ok, so I was knitting in the basement while Curt put our camping gear away…and then he got into reorganizing the basement shelves…and so I moved in to ‘director’ mode…still in my chair…still knitting)- so yes…whilst unpacking, I came across a few things that I need to talk to you about. Before continuing, please promise to love me forever.
We found:
Curt’s old tonka toys and legos (this is good)
my toy German baby pram and grandmother’s china (also good)
*ahem*
my gameboy (which still works and I still rule)
my homemade gameboy case (thanks, mom)
2 tetris games (I guess I really did steal yours back in 1989, Danny.)
1 super mario brothers game (definitely mine)
my box of hundreds (yes) of Babysitter’s Club and Sweet Valley Twins & Sweet Valley High ‘novels’
a rubbermaid of my 3 Cabbage Patch dolls and 1 Koosa- a cat (I can’t believe I just said that.)
a mini duffel bag of clothing for said dolls
3 eggs
3 cups flour
3 tablespoons vanilla
1 cup oil OR 1/2 cup oil, 1 cup applesauce
2 cups zucchini, grated
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup nuts (optional)
3 teaspoons cinnamon

chapel hill wildlife:
in my neighborhood, while driving .2 miles to my neighbors last night, i saw 4 deer and one copperhead crossing the road. copperhead’s friend lives at the bottom of my driveway with his friend footlong snapping turtle. seriously.
think i might be needing some zucchini bread. i made a hawaiian sweet bread yesterday (in bread maching–does that still count?) and it was divine.

mmmmmmm… i love Zucchini bread, I might have to make some! Grandma Bell makes the best zucchini’s bread ever!

I am obsessed with gameboys, I have 2, one shiney red Gameboy advance, and a cool white Nintendo DS, maybe due to lack of these growing up they decided to come find me in my 20’s Super Mario is kinda my boyfriend. 🙂

Ok, first, I am so pleased that you posted your Zucchini bread recipe without me having to come crawling and begging for it. For Banana Bread, I have always relied on my checkerboard Betty Crocker cookbook recipe, and I foolishly thought that the zucchini bread recipe on the same page would be as good. Let me just say, it was not. Way too dry and even in a standard loaf pan I ended up with what looks like a loaf of biscotti, not high, pretty, dense zucchini bread like I remember having as a kid. So, again, yay!
Last week while going through the spare bedroom and packing up things, I found a big plastic tub full of old pictures, and Matt and I sat on the couch for hours flipping through them. We came upon a classic, me at about 8 in a nightshirt (probably still in the middle of the day) and rollerskates, and my brother at about 3, in his usual uniform of underwear, socks, and lifting a small dumbbell. Matt had only this to say, “What on *earth* is that on your shirt, and what exactly does it say?” It was a Cabbage Patch nightshirt, with your kitty koosa on it, and in big bold purple letters, it proclaimed, “KISS A KOOSA.” So, please, do not fret, as I share in your shame.

I loved the Babysitter Club books! I remember after I started reading those, I took a Babysitting class as an after-school activity, and then I made up business cards and went around my neighborhood drumming up business. I was 11, and I was the best babysitter around, if I do say so myself. Those books changed my life! 🙂
