P is for…

‘p’ is for Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Crackers… which basically define ‘snacks’ for me as a child all the way through adulthood.  They are a given on any family road trip, can be found in any family cupboard, and are acceptable at any time of day.

praying‘p’ is for prayer… which I believe in deeply but am terrible at, discipline-wise.  My brain… there’s something wrong with it, People.  When I close my eyes and try to focus, I can only last for about 10 seconds.  Then it starts to wander… re-creating conversations, making lists, writing stories, dreaming, picking out paint colors, planning dinner.  Truthfully, this is why I started seriously singing.  Singing was a way for me to pray without losing focus.  A way to talk without getting sidetracked.  Pauses are intentional, notes are purposeful, and everything put together tells a story.  I love music.  It’s how I pray.

‘p’ is for pizza… which I could eat every day of my life and never complain.  Every. Day.

‘p’ is for Pride and Prejudice… a favorite Jane Austin novel.  I love both movieadaptations for completely different reasons.  But I must confess, Matthew Macfadyen’s Darcy makes me weak in the knees.  He’s a genius.

‘p’ is for pregnant… which I am-  7+ weeks.  [pause]  Everyone ok?  Truthfully, I am scared to death but more comfortable every day.  Physically, I feel really good.  I could, however, sleep about 20 hours a day if I didn’t have a 2 year old pestering me all the time to help her grow, eat, and take her to see horses.  We have seen the baby’s heartbeat, which is a comfort.  My first actual appointment is not until the 13th, and I’ll have another ultrasound then to check on things.  My niece is thrilled… she has named it ‘Jesus’ (for a boy, obviously) or ‘Lil’ Sprout’ (for a girl).  I have explained to her that growing a child is hard work… and growing a Messiah even harder.  We are just taking things one day at a time.  Celebrate with us now and, please, pray with all your might… in silence and in song 🙂

OMW! That was so sneaky the way you did that!! Congrats! So happy for you and your family! = )

  • Miss Laura

That WAS sneaky! NIce work, you. Chris Dornan is SOOO going to pump his fist in the air when he reads that 🙂 You are a champion baby-grower, Miss Kate, and you have all the Mike-rits’ prayers with you.

Though, truthfully, I am also very bad at praying, AND I can’t sing. I’m sure God will overlook this for your sake.

  • AmyD

    yippeeeee! praying!

  • Amy L

Keep singing! Prayer – ah yes I agree the mind starts running. I love the emotion of singing and how it brings things to surface!

Congratulations! I’ll be singing for you and the family.

  • Kathy Westendorp

Oh, this is great news!! We will be praying for you guys.

And here I thought I was the only one who’s brain goes wandering when it’s time to pray. LOL! I am glad to see it isn’t just me. When I was little in church and we’d have the loooooong prayer, it was like absolute torture. Usually now I find that song lyrics go through my head while I’m supposed to be praying!! Thanks for sharing. You have a true gift and a way with words, and I look forward to reading what you have to say and what’s in your heart. Blessings!!

Oh, yeah….and I totally agree with you on the pizza. This is what I lived on while pregnant … and also why I probably look the way I do right now!

  • Amy B.

Congratulations, you sneaky girl! I wonder how you would have worked that in if you weren’t on P in your Katie encyclopedia. You’re giving me hope. I’ll be keeping you in my equally wandering prayers and thoughts (I re-create conversations, too! Why do we do that?)

  • Cathy

I have to add, I didn’t want to admit my mind wanders too during prayer and I thought I was the only one. When I get a prayer request from a friend, I will say a prayer and when I am thinking of that person even reading their emails I will remember their prayer request and talk to God then for their request.

  • Nancy

Oh how happy to be expecting a little one… I will keep you in my (wandering) prayers…

I am so happy for you! I don’t know what your challenges have been, but I will pray that all goes well. So there ya go, you’ll get some Mormon prayers too!

Oh and by the way, we have a scripture that says, “For my soul delighteth in the song of the heart; yea, the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me, and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads.” You can find it here: http://scriptures.lds.org/en/dc/25

    Good stuff.

    love,
    kim

    I love P. It’s my favorite yet.
You have a beautiful voice, I remember that about you, it’s wonderful that you can sing to Him, you know he just asks us to come…..
And….yeah yeah yeah. I’m so excited, encouraged, in awe at your pregnancy. That is awesome Katie and I will be praying for you, not in song, because my voice is a little not on the great side, but get down on my knees style.
I’m so excited for you that you heard the heartbeat, that is a load off and a wonderful feeling i’m sure.
Wow, baby Jesus, what a task….that is hilarious.
