The computer is still not fixed. Mostly because I never disconnected it and gave it to Curt to take in. I did manage to uninstall the security system, and things are working lovely right now albeit without any protection. The computer is naked. Nekid, as we say in these parts.
Friday, I threw SuperKid Screamer in the sling and started making dinner. I went to the trash. It was (still- like, from before vacation) full. So, I pushed down to make some room… and nearly lost my right pinky finger on a can of corn. Now, that can of corn should have been in the recycling, not the trash: Mistake #1. The trash should have been emptied days ago, like when we returned from our trip Sunday night and declared it a major contributor to The Smell: Mistake #2. And, I should not have been cleaning as I went along my merry dinner way… stick to your routine, Kate!: Mistake #3.
Bah. So, maybe I fainted a teensy bit and hit the floor. I was fine… I could hear Rylie say, “Boom” as I sat down, so I never went completely out. Just seriously woozy. I did call Curt and managed to freak him out. Two minutes later our neighbor screeched into our driveway with her National Guard son and a First Aid kit to bandage me up. I was well enough to ask for a Hello Kitty band-aid, which he didn’t have, so really- I was fine.
It’s a nasty cut, though. It’s one of those um- maybe you should have gotten some stitches but there’s not really time for that and also IT’S YOUR PINKY get over it kind of things. But, like a paper cut, it’s annoying as all get out.
Three things make this better:
1. Katie Hoops is happy with her ‘Guess SuperKid’s Name’ prize of a market bag and a veggie bag. I like it when people are happy with their TexasNorth schtuff.
2. Amber made Tillie a birthday outfit and used the bloomer leg ruffle tute I wrote up. Fabulous. [Please remember that I am not a pattern drafter or sewer. I am a Wing It ‘Til It’s Right kind of gal. The fact that these came out as pants AT ALL thrills me.]
3. This photo that church took of Rylie Girl. Oh my word. It was part of her Sunday School Mother’s Day present and I just cannot even stand it. What a rugrat. What an absolutely perfect rugrat. This was obviously taken on a Sunday when Gideon and I did not make it to church… look at those bangs!
Thursday. People. It’s time for TexasNorth t-shirts. Be thinking of a one-liner for the farm! We need a tag line… that’s your job. Thursday.

had the same accident with a run in slicing potatoes on a mandolin. In front of a group of professors I was teaching…my first time teaching a group of “important” people…. I fainted…in heels and a dress. lovely. 3 stitches. it still hurts if I hit it wrong. so literally I feel your pain. As an ecology teacher letthis be your lesson to recycle 🙂 Your Ry pic is adorable…almost as cute as the one of her in rolled up pants laughing in someone else’s shoes… I love that picture….

I’m glad the appendage is still attached, and thank goodness for the National Guard!

How about “Texas North: Where We Milk Life For All It’s Worth”
I name cattle. I come up with one-liners.
You’re welcome.

I like Rebecca’s idea for the one-liner!!!
Go Rylie for having a word for what happened after you cut your finger!!!
May 10th, 2010 at 10:54 pm
Sorry about the cutting/fainting incident. Hope you’re all better soon. That picture of Rylie is adorable–one you will cherish for years and years!

Oh, Katie. The garbage, the can, the faint and no Hello Kitty to help. I get it. Seriously. And, no kidding, that’s a great pic of Rylie. I’m sorry for being gone so long. Amy B. said something about how much she liked your post (one of the past three!), and I said, “Oh…I haven’t read it, yet…” It’s been one of those weeks. And I have no voice. Which makes mothering a lot harder. I just don’t have the do it now tone. So they don’t, and I’m insane.

Hi there. It’s your male reader and resident software developer. Have you looked at using Microsoft Security Essentials for your PC? You might want to consider it. It’s FREE, which is always a good thing. I’ve heard of lots of people having good luck with it. I hate to hear about people having trouble with technology.
Here’s a link.
Great post. I read your stuff and I’m inspired. You’re doing good work here, Kate. Keep it up.

I’m a wing it til it’s right kind of girl too — that’s probably why I liked the tutorial so much! Thanks for helping my girl look cute on her birthday.
