Lordy. Thanks for missing us. We missed you too…though we did get to actually hug many of you in our blogger absence which was pure delight. Seriously.
I’m a little scattered today. Bare/bear with me.
We’re going to see the butterflies! We’re going to see the butterflies! Friday. Come with.
Our pastor asked us to fast Saturday in preparation for this Sunday’s sermon (fast on St. Paddy’s Day!!! egads). I don’t believe I have ever intentionally fasted…though I know I have inadvertantly skipped a day of meals from sheer forgetfulness, sickness, or laziness. This was the Boy’s first experience as well. He took it to every extreme…to include boycotting toothpaste. I do not recommed this…not so much for your own personal health, but for the sake of those around you. Just a thought.
Rylie Joy/my shadow/Peanut/gooberhead is growing up. I cannot stand it. Texas suited her very well at 4 months of age. She experienced her first of many breaths of fresh air (our Michigan winter has kept her inside for all of 1.7 hours of her life thus far), wore every sunsuit we could find on sale, modeled 2 cutie sunhats made by Grammy, and was generally hilarious- head over to Flickr to see proof. The girl is drooling now…not for teething reasons, but just because it’s that time. Everything she grabs goes to her mouth where she gums/licks/slobbers it within an inch of its life. She also has taken to “slam dancing” where she raises both her legs up high and then POUNDS the matress repeatedly…it sounds like construction in her room when she wakes up from her naps. I love being her mom.
“I wish you were more like my pillow.” A comment from a very sleepy Curt the other night…directed at me, his dear wife. I don’t even know what that means. Filled with feathers? Squishy? Covered in cotton? Made in China?
A lesson on how to get to the airport (Mulder Family style):
- wake at 3:30am…ready yourself and your child for a morning of flying and flourescent lights
- leave at 4am for a 5:45am flight…in a work truck pulling a flatbed trailer so the husband can go to an auction later that morning
- jacknife at 4:04am on your road at the bottom of a hill covered in a sheet of ice
- send husband back .35 miles (on ice) to the Shoebox to retrieve the Land Cruiser and winch
- straighten out truck and flatbed, attempt to pull up icy hill
- slide down into ditch next to truck and flatbed, completely blocking the road from both directions
- break winch
- 4:45am…walk back to .35 miles (on ice) Shoebox with husband, child, and carry-on bag
- put baby back to bed, still in her snowsuit, call American Airlines
- send husband back out with the tractor– the last vehicle we own besides the riding lawnmower available to un-stuck the vehicles on the sheet of ice
- 7:30am…husband returns to says everything is back on the property and unharmed…do you want to go to the airport?
- explain I have to fly standby to Dallas at 12:45pm- go back to sleep
- leave at 9:30am, just to be safe
- go the other direction on the road this time…still in the work truck…still pulling the flatbed
- make it to the airport without incident, send husband to auction
- make it to Dallas only to find that all connecting flights to home are hopelessly full
- beg parents to drive to Dallas (3 hours) to retrieve us…remind them that their grand daughter is very very cute, rejoice when they happily agree
- call husband to inform…and find he has bought a hay wagon, a backblade, and a brush hog at the auction (Yay! for those of you not knowing what to do with that information)
- walk 2 levels of parking garage in Dallas trying to find a maroon Tahoe
- make the trip to Belton, stopping for bbq in Waco *the original destination* on the way
- fall into bed under a sky of wonderful warm Texas thunderstorms and sleeeeeeeeeeeeeep
You don’t believe me, but it’s all true.

HOLY SMOKES.
are you kidding?
are you kidding?
are you kidding?
are you kidding?
are you kidding?
are you kidding?
no, i think you are serious. and i am in “shock and awe” over having two vehicles and a flat bed trailer in a ditch at 4 am, all packed up, WITH A BABY, headed to the airport.
did you shed tears?
did you swear?
how did you cope?
better yet, where at the pictures?
and you walked back to the shoebox? did you find your way by navigating by the light of the moon?
you deserve an award, a medal, a big fat milkshake and a massage.

I forgot to mention that at one point the tactor, by its sheer weight, slid down the hill away from Curt.
We did wak back by the light of the moon.
I did cry….after the Land Cruiser crashed. I am MUCH more of a wimp when Curt is around because he’s there to take care of me.
I don’t remember swearing- out loud.
I’ll take that milk shake!

katie i know all that is true b/c it is you and that is what makes it all great. i am so impressed that you did all this with a 4 month old. this is why i live in the south. so i don’t have to do with getting all 3 of my cars in a ditch at 4 am! i will have to look at the videos at home. i love hearing your voice, it has been too long.

March 20th, 2007 at 12:31 am
Rylie was a very happy child until about 1pm…and then she just gave up. It was terrible- sad bottom lip and red face and everything.
And let me know if Gracie catches Ry!
